1 John 4:16 says it all: “God is love”. What is this love? It is none other than creating each and every one of us in His image, desiring to give us everlasting life in the beatific vision, that is, seeing Him face to face. O how He longs for us to do what He commands, what He desires so that He can pour out on us every blessing. He is so loving, it is hard to describe. From 1 Corinthians 13 we know that love is patient and kind among other things, and love abides.
You might ask, what of all of the suffering that being a child of God entails? As if Jesus is the only one that had to suffer. By suffering, we know if we are obedient or not. If we draw back then God takes no pleasure in us. Rather, we press forward, accepting our suffering, knowing that God’s love is with us and for us. Our suffering helps convert poor sinners when offered up and it perfects us. We know that God is there with us, even though we cannot see him.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I ask that you pour out your love on us. On those that are reading this, those that are suffering, those that are for you, those that are not for you yet, and all mankind. Lord Jesus we love you, though imperfectly. Make us into your likeness so that we may become perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Lord Jesus, touch us now, touch us deeply today with your love. Praise you Jesus, praise you!
Here is a link to a song that you may find will raise you heart to God’s Love: Misty Edwards – God is Love. While not music for Mass, it is never-the-less music for my soul. Just listen to the words from her heart. Fall madly, fall wildly, trust completely in the God up above. God is Love.
